MINERAL COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Serving the students of Mina, Luning, Walker Lake, Hawthorne, and Schurz, Nevada

Hello Students, Parents and Families of Mineral County School District:

Please be informed that the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year will be delayed by one week. We will open for students on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 instead of Monday, August 31, 2020.  The reasons for the delay are due to a significant increase of COVID cases within Mineral County as well as staff and student safety.  I have not yet received all the personal protective equipment (PPE) that were ordered.  Items are trickling in, but we do not have everything as described in our Reopening Plan.  I cannot in good conscience place staff and students in jeopardy when I promised parents, community members, the Board of Trustees, and the Nevada Department of Education that I would have appropriate PPEs.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience.

Thank you again,

Karen Watson, Superintendent

Parents and Students,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide input on your experience with Distance Learning during the school closure this spring.  As we plan for what instruction should look like next year, please help us by completing this survey in order to give us better ideas for providing services.  We ask that as you answer these questions think about what experiences you had during the distance learning process.  This survey will be open until Friday June 26th. There can only be one submission per device, but you can complete the survey on as many devices as you have.  For example, Adult #1 completes on computer, Adult #2 completes on their phone, 4th grade student home completes on tablet, 10th grade student in home on their phone and so on until everyone who wants to complete the survey can do so.   Again, thank you for your support and time.

Sincerely,

Karen S. Watson, Superintendent
