TEACHER LOAN FORGIVENESS FORBEARANCE PROGRAM

The United States Department of Education (USDE) Teacher Loan Forgiveness Forbearance Program authorizes up to $17,500 in loan forgiveness to eligible highly qualified math, science and special education teachers. The loan forgiveness will provide substantial relief for existing teachers and an incentive for prospective teachers to teach in subjects and schools that have difficulty hiring highly qualified candidates.

The loan forgiveness is available to teachers:

  • at schools that are at 31%+ free and reduced lunch and

  • who are new borrowers - no outstanding loan balances prior to October 1, 1998, who borrowed eligible loans prior to October 1, 2005.

For information on the program, contact the USDE’s Federal Student Aid Customer Service hotline at 1-800-433-7327. The Nevada Department of Education can also be contacted at 775-687-9228.
