THURSDAY 1-14-2021

Hello Parents/Guardians and Families of Mineral County School District;

 I am writing to inform all parents/guardians, students, and staff members that we will be returning to in-person school effective Tuesday, January 19, 2021. The schools’ schedules will remain as they were prior to our move to distance learning. If your child(ren) were on distance learning prior and you wish to have them remain on distance learning, they may continue as you wish.

 If you requested to have your child(ren) return to in-person instruction from distance learning, please contact your child(ren)’s school office to register/notify/verify for them of a return to in-person instruction. School office may be closed until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, any registration/notification will take place after this time, if needed.

The only exceptions to those returning to in-person learning are those who have tested positive or who live in a household with a positive case. These persons/students would return after their quarantine period, per health department directives.

 If you have questions please contact the office of your child’s school or the District Office.

Thank you.

 Topic: Positive Case of COVID-19 in MINERAL COUNTY SCHOOL District

 Wednesday, January 6, 2021

 Dear MCSD Parents, Guardians, and Staff and members:

Today, we received notification that a MCSD has a positive result for COVID-19. While we must protect the privacy of the individual involved, we believe it is best to communicate transparently with you so you can make well-informed decisions for your family.

There is nothing more important to MCSD than the safety and health of our students, our staff and their families. We are working directly with county health officials to address this situation. They have recommended we share the following with you:

Students that were possibly exposed along with their in-home siblings will be or have been contacted by the Acting Deputy Health Officer, Christina Boyles.  If you did not receive a phone call by Ms. Boyles your child is not affected and can attend school as usual.

All Junior High and High School classrooms will be fogged at lunch and after school daily (Monday – Thursday) while students are considered in-person learning.

MCSD will continue to follow all COVID-related safety procedures including:

Teachers and staff members will sanitize classroom desks between each class period. Daily after school, Hawthorne Junior High and Mineral County High School will continue to have custodial staff deep clean areas including classrooms, library, wood shop, laboratories, gymnasium, and the patio dining area. There will also be sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces, including door handles, desks, faucets, light switches, dining tables/chairs, stair railing, ….

COVID-19 is transmitted through person-to-person contact and through the exchange of respiratory droplets. As more cases are being confirmed across the state, including in our community, we must be vigilant. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. If you or any member of your family exhibit these symptoms, please contact your medical provider for advice immediately. Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after exposure.

Our greatest priority is the safety of our students, staff and community members. It is important to remember that children are greatly influenced by the reactions of adults when facing difficult circumstances. I encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathic and respectful to those affected.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family, especially as we face this challenging situation together. Thank you for your support of MCSD.
