Serving the students of Mina, Luning, Walker Lake, Hawthorne, and Schurz, Nevada

THURSDAY 1-14-2021

Hello Parents/Guardians and Families of Mineral County School District;

I am writing to inform all parents/guardians, students, and staff members that we will be returning to in-person school effective Tuesday, January 19, 2021. The schools’ schedules will remain as they were prior to our move to distance learning. If your child(ren) were on distance learning prior and you wish to have them remain on distance learning, they may continue as you wish.

If you requested to have your child(ren) return to in-person instruction from distance learning, please contact your child(ren)’s school office to register/notify/verify for them of a return to in-person instruction. School office may be closed until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, any registration/notification will take place after this time, if needed.

The only exceptions to those returning to in-person learning are those who have tested positive or who live in a household with a positive case. These persons/students would return after their quarantine period, per health department directives.

If you have questions please contact the office of your child’s school or the District Office.

Thank you.

Karen S. Watson, Superintendent

Graduation will be here soon.

Will you be ready?

High School Planning and Career Planning may not be something that you thought you'd be thinking about today .... but it is something each of us have to do at some point.  Your future is under construction and the decisions you make will determine how you live.

How do I start?

What do I do?

Who do I listen to?

If any of those questions sound familiar, its because everyone of us ask those same questions.  In a world where change is constant "How do I know if  I have made the right decision?" You may not, but you have to move foward and with some guidance from more experienced people we might be able to keep you from making errors others have made.

Step 1

Begin with the end in mind, is what author Steven Covey tells us... so when you are older say 25 years old or even later when you are 45 years old....what do you want to look back on an be proud of in your life?  How do you want to live?  Where do you want to live?

Step 2

If I have figured out the answers to the above, that's pretty incredible,  many of us  just don't know what we want to do in our lives.  So how do we keep moving?

There are courses called "GENERAL EDUCATION"
which is what everyone has to take.  So, you start with those classes first.    Next , you plan out which years you are going to take which classes.  You have to plan well so you do not get frustrated and give up.

Here is a sample high school planning form  -

Step 3

Start thinking about what you'd like to do in your life.  This is an important decision that gets made and your parents and teachers may be good folks to ask that question and get some ideas.  You may want to think about what you like to do or what you are good at and enjoy.
